Biography
of Phillip Outten
Former Grand Turk resident Phillip Outten's and artist in oil and water
color paintings. Phillip Outten presents a striking picture.
The handsome dreadlocked 23 year old Rastafarian speaks passionately and
has a beautiful smile. He tells people he loves to draw, but only started
painting seriously only 4 years ago. He works from his own sketches and
photographs and scenes he sees while meditating. Phillip has no formal
training in art, just the ones from high school.
The young artist's rendering of a hummingbird
in one painting and flamingos in another, display his ability to display
those birds in oil.
Never having shown his painting before
only shortly, Outten was frusterated by his lack of organizational experience.
"My brethren helped, but no one else, until I spoke with Cal Piper.
He let me do what I knew, No Problem."
Outten says he "hope to help develop
the culture of these islands" and that "I have to do art. That
is me... I can't give it up."
